Jeff Centracchio, Highland Bagpiper

Jeff Centracchio grew up loving the sound of the bagpipes, even though he had only ever heard them during televised parades in Chicago. While in elementary school in the early ‘80s he got his first real glimpse of a live bagpiper and his love of the pipes became even stronger. But it wasn’t until 1998 that he began his bagpipe journey.

One day in late July 1998 Jeff happened by a man, by the name of John McIlroy, playing the bagpipes in a local coffee house in downtown Panama City Florida. After the piper’s set was over Jeff approached John to discuss his love of the bagpipes. It was then that he found out that John just happened to be the pipe major for The Panama City Pipes and Drums. John invited him to band practice later that week and the rest is history. Jeff was a member of the Panama City Pipes and Drums in Panama City Florida from 1998-2002. In 2002 he joined the US Air Force and was shipped off to Japan, where he performed in local festivals and pubs throughout Misawa Japan. After returning to the US he became a member of The Palmetto Pipes and Drums in Columbia South Carolina in 2010.

In October of 2015 Jeff joined Metroplex United Pipe Band. Jeff has competed in multiple grade IV and V band competitions throughout the central and southeastern U.S. He has also performed at several events such as parades, festivals, weddings, birthday parties, and memorial services.
